Blog Storytelling Assignment

Blog Storytelling Assignment

The Purpose:
The purpose of creating your blog is to enhance our literacy skills (reading/writing) in a creative and individualized arena where you can get feedback from your peers in any of my eighth grade classes. Because this is the purpose there are not going to be a lot of rules or restrictions on this assignment.

Why storytelling?
“…[B]ecause stories allow people to express experiences and feelings in an engaging way, to help them understand the world around them, and develop and sustain peer relationships. Furthermore, storytelling promotes verbal literacy, one of the most important aspects of education” (Huffaker 96).

So how do I do it?
The assignment is by Friday, December 3rd to have posted two stories. These can be personal stories, topics you’re interested in, your pet, favorite band—really the possibilities are limitless. For a sample blog entry go to my 8th Grade blog at http://mcnaughtons8thgradeenglish.blogspot.com/ and read the post about my dog Rocky. You may format your entries however you like.

Due Date to post your two stories by: Friday, December 3rd by midnight
Points Possible: 40 (20 per blog entry)

Peer Feedback Assignment:

Lastly, in class on December 6th we will be going into the computer lab to give each other feedback on our blog stories.
1. Go to http://mcnaughtons8thgradeenglish.blogspot.com/ click on any of my links under “Student Blogs” in the right-hand column.
2. Read and comment on at least three other students’ blog posts.

*Profanity and cyber-bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. Be respectful and treat others how you would like to be treated.

Example of a good comment: “I dance too. I do hip hop and jazz, but I’m at a different studio.”
-Made a connection and had a reason to comment.

Example of a poor comment: “That’s cool that you dance!”
-Not really informative. Blah.

Due Date to comment on three other blogs: Monday, December 6th by midnight
Points Possible: 15 (5 per comment)
