B2- Ch. 18

Based on what we've read so far, predict what will happen in the end of The Giver.
*If you know what happens write what you would want to happen instead of what does.

I want his cummunity to have choices in what they did and to have life at least similar to ours.

What would I have wanted to happen?
I wanted Jonas to get the memory of death, or a broken neck, or maybe he could have gotten paralized, or...
I wanted him to get really bad memory, but this time for something to go wrong that stuck. For instance, had he died in the memory, he wouldn't wake up from the memory, and Lily and Fiona and Asher would have confessed that they hadn't liked him anyways. Or he could've broken his neck, but his parents didn't know what to do with a broken neck, so they send him to school with a neck brace, and he would fall over, dead from a bad case of humiliation, and then Lily and Fiona and Asher would have confessed that they hadn't liked him anyways. Or maybe...
I'm a sucker for sad endings.
Love,
Lizzie

I think that the ending of The Giver will be a sad ending or something. I think that Jonas try to act brave for The Giver and ask him to give him really awful memories like the ones he gave Rosemary, and since Jonas can't apply for release, he will have to get rid of the pain some other way. I think that he will give the bad memories he receives to Gabriel. After too many bad memories, Gabe will die under the stress or be released to another community for abuse from Jonas. After Gabe dies or is released, all of the memories will be released into the community just like when Rosemary was released. Then The Giver will be released for failing twice at being The Giver. Then they will also release Jonas for Killing Gabe.
If that doesn't happen, then something happy will. I think that if something happy happens, It will be something like:
Jonas marries Fiona, then the community becomes "anti-communist" and they get all of there freedoms back. There will be hills, and when Gabe grows up, he and Jonas will return color and memories to the community. I kind of prefer the sad ending, but a happy ending wouldn't be bad either, because I really like both kinds.

If I were to choose an ending it would definetely be happy. I think that Jonas should somehow turn the community around so everyone would share the memories instead of it being on one person's shoulders. They definetely wouldn't have the release program. Everyone could say what they want and be what they want without it being assigned to them, or not being right.

I have read the book and I think the ending sucks. This book was cool and all but then you get to the ending and that just blows it. I would want him to get to civilization and than go back to the place and bring everyone else to where there are animals and music. I wish that would happen or they gave us more information on if he died or not because I am just in question if he lived heard the echo or he died of cold.

Hm, if I wanted anything to change at all in the book, I wouldn't really want anything to change. Maybe a little more excitement here and there, or something about the ruler of the secret underground, the Happy Elf, and his part in the demise of Jonas's and the Giver's plan. All in all, the biggest thing that I think needs to be added, not changed, is the the ending. You finish the book, and you turn the last page, but there's not another chapter there, so you think, what the heck? Did Frosty steal a chapter out of my book again? Then you look in the index and realize that that is the last chapter, unless the Happy Elf recently issued a decree throughout the land that the last chapter of every book was to be taken out that you hadn't heard of. So the thing that really needs to be added, remember, not changed, is the ending, which is why I say that the Happy Elf should give back all the last chapters of every book in the world so that we can continue on with our book club/english assignment! So rise up with me and declare that they be given back so that we can finish this book, and read the good ending that we expected!

(P.S. for some reason it won't let me post with the ASDstudents email thing even though I've used it before, and I even checked to make sure I got it right.)

I think that he will get all the memories then die by falling into the river and everyone will have all of those memories that he once had now that he is dead.

What i think is going to happen in the end of this book is Jonas is going to do something to change the communtiy. maybe do something that will make poeple be able to choose things for themselves. and have a real life without being told what to do.

Well I like the ending personaly but I was just confused on wether he made it to else where or he just died.

Personally the ending kind of confused me. I didn't get why Jonas left, was it to leave the memories or get away from the sameness? I think I would have liked it if the community got rid of sameness in this book, but still be a nice community, that's waht I think should happen.

I think Jonas will try to run away or something and he will make it so everyone has memories. I think his friends and the giver will run away with him too.

If I were to pick a new ending for the Giver, I would want it to end how it would normally be with out the real ending happened. So I would want everything to be normal like, i want Jonas to just get adjusted to his new life and Gabe to get healthy and strong. So that is a little different from the real life ending but I would just like to write a different ending.

I think that it will end with Jonas giving in from all the pain and he tells someone and shares a memory with them. In the end I think there should be no sameness or anything like that and they can experience life how it is now.

I think Jonas and the Giver are going do something to make the memories go to everyone.

I think that Jonas will kidnap Gabriel because gabe was going to be released in other words death. Then he will try to escape and shed his memories to the comunity. Thus leading them to need the givers advice about how to deal with it and make it a society like today.

I think that jonas is going to die on his way away from the community. Just thinking the only memories he can remember, like the sled ride, or love. But maybe it was just an echo.

I think that it will end with Jonas going to look for that girl or what ever but then he dicovers that she is dead. Then he will try to go back and then he will get lost and die!

I think that Jonas should go to the 'elsewhere' and the memories be stuck with the cummunity and for the giver to help the cumminity like what he did with Jonas and they should realize it would be alot nicer with choices and color so they will like to have choices again and not sameness.

I think that the ending of the Giver will be a result of sadness. I think that something unexpected is going to happen that is scary or really sad. I think that Jonas will be sick of being one of the only people who knows about colors and love and all of his memories that he will just tell someone about the memories that he has received because he can't keep all of the sad memories with him anymore.

If I were to predict what will happen at the end of the book I would say that Jonas will recieve most of the memories if not all of them. Then he will decide to run away so that people can have those memories again and then that community will got back to how we live now with color and all of those things.

I think that Jonas will get all of the memories and wont be able to take it so he will run away and will come back and be the best receiver that they have ever had but he will have a new apprentice and it will be gab becuse he as already seen a vision. And it will end like that!

since i have already read the book, i know how it ends. i liked the ending. it didnt solve everything, but it mostly satisfied me. i would like to know more about what happened to the giver, and how the people coped with all the memories though.

I think that in the end Jonas will be giving Gabe bad memories and It will be too much for him and It will kill him. And so Jonas will escape the community and go to the real world.

Kira Landon said...

i think that jonas is going to get in so much pain and try to back down from the calling of the reciever but the giver helps him to get through it

Anonymous said...

I hope that Jonas will do something to make the community not the same as all the others, so that they can make their own choices and have the memories too.

Anonymous said...

I think that in the end, Jonas won't like how the community is organized. so he will find out what happens when you get realesed and that will make him not like it even more, so he will go jump in the river.

i would want jonas dad to die for killing the twin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well I think that something good will happen. I think that Jonas will find or recieve even more good memories than the bad and he will hve so much room in his head and he will have so much of the good memories that he won't always remember of the bad memories or always be reminded of the depressing ones. As you can tell I get really depressed about the sad things that I just want good things to happen. haha

I would like it to end where Jonas goes to the house and learns all these new things and tells the family he's with his life and somehow the giver convinces everyone to not do sameness and everyone can have feelings, etc. and the family that he stays with there is a girl his age and later on they get married and adopted gabriel or something and Jonas's community moves over to the "realy world" and everyone is normal!

Janessa said...

Hmm.... Well, I would want The giver to give all of his memories to the people and Then they start to see colors and have love, and they all agree to have their own kids, keep in touch with family, choose their own spouse, have no realese ceromony,...But have some things stay the same like the ceromony of ages, family units, Having only two or less kids... So all in all there would be order, but you would still get dome leg room.

I predict that the community will start believing Jonas about the war stuff and that they will see what the real word is like. And Jonas should be able pass on the memories to something else, not a person, but something that doesn't have feeling. Maybe a machine or something.
